Post 9-11 Government Policies

This course is designed to critically examine and debate the effectiveness of government policies to improve domestic security and its impact on immigrants living in the U.S. Can immigration laws be enforced to prevent terrorism in a manner that does not promote racial, ethnic, and religious profiling?

Topics include the 9/11 Commission Report, hate crimes against Arab, Muslims and South Asians, non-disclosure of names and closed immigration hearings, treatment of September 11th detainees, the Patriot Act, the Absconder Initiative, the Special Registration Program, SEVIS, the Real ID Act, Secure Communities Agreements, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, and the Dream Act.
